Would GM benefit from bankruptcy?  Perhaps.  The company is like a substance abuser, continuity of made life choices leading to a recidivist need for care, but without the ‘intervention’ to start making the right choices.  Be it bankruptcy or some other mechanism, GM needs to fess up to decades of mismanagement, work with employee, franchisees, etc. to pare down to a healthy core but then manage that core committed to high speed discovery of market needs and how to meet them.  For a further discussion, please see Rick Newman’s post in US News.
